Dr. Strangelove or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

19 April 2005

Watched Dr. Strangelove after a long time and still enjoyed watching it a lot. Its probably one of the best movies by Stanley Kubrick and Peter Sellers and George C. Scott are great in this one.

V for vendetta

26 March 2005

Arguably the worst movie I’ve seen. Matrix 3, Steven Segal, Van Damme, and Chuck Norris movies are masterpieces when compared to this movie.

My darling Clementine

24 March 2005

John Ford’s take on Wyat Earp, Doc’ Holliday, the Clantons and the gunfight at OK Corral. It was great to see a pre-release preview version (with some of John Ford’s restored and the producers editing/revisions suggested by Darryl F. Zanuck reversed).

The search for Robert Johnson

24 March 2005

A nice documentary about Robert Johnson. It has some good performances by John Hammond Jr., Johnny Shines, and David Honeyboy Edwards.

Muddy Waters: Messin’ With the Blues

24 March 2005

Muddy waters is great as usual. But the real surprise was an amazing performance by Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. From what I’ve watched its probably one of the best live performances by Buddy Guy and Junior Wells available on DVD. In particular their rendition of the song “Ten Years Ago” is just spectacular.

The long goodbye

17 March 2005

Robert Altman’s version of Raymond Chandler novel with Elliott Gould as Philip Marlowe. I would still vote Powers Boothe as the best Marlowe, with Humphrey Bogart as a close second.

Touch of evil

17 March 2005

A great movie, must watch. Orson Welles is great, but, Charlton Heston is not all that convincing.

Sweet smell of success

2 March 2005

Recommended by James Mangold on Elvis Mitchell’s treatment. As I had seen and liked ladykillers by Alexander Mackendrick, decided to give it a try. Its a nice movie worth watching.
