How to get rid of green screen from Netflix movie player

28 July 2007

Getting a green screen while trying to watch movies online from Netflix? This happens even if you have latest video drivers and you have all the latest update? Tried rebooting and still get the green screen?

Then, heres how you can get rid of it.

  1. Click on Start->Run and type dxdiag (DirectX diagnostic tool).
  2. Click on the Display tab and then DISABLE DirectDraw Acceleration.

If it still doesn’t work, then you might have to change your firewall settings (disabling http proxy seems to work).

Wow - this actually worked. Thanks for saving me a great deal of time.

Can you possible tell us some of the general impacts to the system when disabling this feature?

    Regards!

    Melanie,

I am not an expert, especially when it comes to video acceleration. That said, one of the things disabling DirectDraw Acceleration impacts is 3D games. I imagine anything that needs 3d rendering, such as autocad, might get affected.

Also, one of the comments above says PowerDVD doesn’t work. I use windvd and don’t have any problems with it.

I’m agreement with all! Thank you so much! I can now watch after 2 hours of messing around. Now I need to figure out why I don’t have any control over the screen — pausing, stopping, etc. - just white blocks where I’m assuming these controls are supposed to be.

Just tried it and it fixed the problem… you would think that Netflix would have this advice somewhere easily accessible on their site. Oh well, who can say that big companies really make sense.
